Philip Iverson’s work, informed by expressionism, focuses on the exaggerated and distorted figure to reveal inner attitudes, emotions, desires and frustrations. The dynamism of his work was recognized early in his career: he has received awards, scholarships and media coverage steadily since 1982, including a television interview on CBC and the National News Channel. Iverson has exhibited widely throughout Canada since 1987. Important exhibitions include Boat, Saint John City Gallery and Beaverbrook Art Gallery, and Tempting Fate, Memorial Hall, Fredericton. Philip Iverson obtained a BFA from Mount Allison University in 1990 and taught at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design from 1997 to 2001. In 2006, at age 41, Iverson died in Montreal from brain cancer.
