Sean Montgomery’s artistic practice is focused on pattern, repetition, and exploring the space between representational and abstract imagery. His work is engaged with the history of abstraction and the examination of different artistic hierarchies. Montgomery explores topics under this umbrella including nature, landscape and Canadian iconography, textiles and fabric patterns, as well as social class and identity. Montgomery is an artist from Edmonton, who currently lives in Ithaca, New York. He received a BFA in Painting from the University of Alberta and a MFA in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University. Montgomery’s work has been exhibited in Canada, Europe, and the USA, most notably in two exhibitions at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York (2011, 2013) and at the Museum Sinclair-Haus in Germany (2014).
