Born in Vancouver, BC in 1973, Erin McSavaney completed a program in Graphic Design and Illustration at Capilano College. He went on to study at the Emily Carr Institute, graduating in 1994. His paintings reflect the growth and constant change in perspective McSavaney experiences as an artist. The images themselves are culled from digital video stills and memories of significant geographical locations.
Throughout the drawing and painting process, he builds up and removes pigment, smearing and obscuring compositional elements, leaving the work incomplete. This process of manipulation is a conscious effort to give the painting life outside its source. The suppression of detail sparks the imagination of the viewer.
