Born in Montreal in 1943, Jean-Pierre Lafrance begins his drawing and painting studies at l’École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal in 1959. He continued his studies at the Studio Salette of Montréal, and worked at the Jordi Bonet workshop and at l’Atelier de l’Île in Val-David, Québec. Spontaneous gestures characterize his paintings. Within the abstraction of his work emerge structures which guide the eye toward the most evocative areas. The artist’s sensitivity is reflected by the luminous colours and the richness of his textures. Jean-Pierre Lafrance has participated in several exhibitions in Canada, the United States, Mexico and in Europe. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections around the world. He has also created three-dimensional works that are exhibited in several public places, industrial parks and public buildings.
