“My drawings are based upon the subject of clothing and its relation to the human body. I am interested not only in the social and utilitarian functions of clothing, but also in the way garments disclose or conceal the human form, and the way they seem to oscillate between functionality and theatricality, between absurdity and threat.” Lorène Bourgeois was born in Boulogne Billancourt, France in 1956 and moved to Canada in 1984. She received her MFA from NSCAD University in Halifax. Her work has been exhibited across Canada as well as in France, Korea, Russia and the United States. Her work is held in the collections of the Canada Council Art Bank, the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (Toronto), the National Bank of Canada, the Richmond Hill Public Library, Hart House and Donovan Collection at the University of Toronto.
