Internationally acclaimed artist Michael Snow (b. 1929) is a pioneer of conceptualist and multimedia practice whose work predominantly investigates visual perception. Working across a variety of media as a painter, sculptor, musician, author and experimental filmmaker he is particularly well known for his two films, Wavelength (1967) and La Région Centrale (1971) both of which are considered seminal avant-garde-cinema works. He has exhibited widely with solo exhibitions and retrospectives around the world including: the Venice Biennale in 1970; Documenta 6, 1977; Centre Pompidou, Paris 2002-03. His honours include a Guggenheim Fellowship (1972), the Chevalier de l’Ordre des arts et des lettres, France (1995), the Order of Canada (Officer, 1982; Companion, 2007), the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts (2000) and the Gershon Iskowitz Prize (2011).
