Wanda Koop (b. 1951) lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, such as the Order of Canada (2006). A major retrospective of her work was assembled at the National Gallery of Canada in 2011. Her paintings were part of the exhibition My Winnipeg, in Paris (2011), and one of her installations was featured in Oh, Canada, the largest survey of contemporary Canadian art ever produced outside Canada, at Mass MoCA (Massachusetts), in 2012. The documentary Koop by Katherine Knight insightfully highlights the important themes of her art practice. Koop is also well known for her community work and social activism. In 1998, she founded Art City as a storefront art centre, bringing contemporary visual artists and inner-city youth together to explore the creative process.
